‘Burn in Many Mirrors’ the third album by Manchester’s savage sons Wode was released in 2021 and marked something of a new beginning for the band, with a new label (20 Buck Spin) and a more expansive sound - building upon the black/death metal of previous albums but also incorporating more 80s heavy metal, doom, thrash and progressive elements.
The album was birthed under difficult circumstances with recording being interrupted for several months by the global pandemic. The band used this dead-time to obsessively work on musical and lyrical ideas and ultimately transform the songs into what you hear now. Achieving a synthesis of different sub-genres can be a difficult task, but Wode manage to pull it off with style and personality on ‘Burn in Many Mirrors’, creating a varied and engaging musical journey throughout the album’s six tracks. From the violent onslaught of opener ‘Lunar Madness’, the galloping, Maiden-esque ‘Serpent’s Coil’, expansive mid-album tracks ‘Fire in the Hills’ & ‘Vanish Beneath’ to the finale ‘Streams of Rapture’ which unfolds in three distinct chapters.
Complemented by Joe Clayton’s aggressive yet still organic production and artwork by the great Santiago Caruso who perfectly captured the album’s gloomy, sepulchral narrative.
Wode kept that black flame burning with latest album ‘Uncrossing the Keys’ released in October 2025 also via 20 Buck Spin. Building on the foundations laid on ‘Burn in Many Mirrors’ but expanding further into newer, stranger territory. Response to the new album has been great in what has been an excellent year for new releases by the likes of Havukruunu, Teitanblood, Volahn & Messa.
Now, Gimme Metal continue to keep the spirit of ‘Burn in Many Mirrors’ alive with the new ‘Lunar Madness’ edition for their November 2025 Vinyl Club!
